Adversity is the human condition.

We believe that every person has at least one adverse moment that changes the course of their lives and that calls on them to make a stand for both self and others. It was from moments like these that our founders birthed the idea of the National Coalition for Social Advancement.

Adversity, as the organization understands it, is the multifaceted result of economic, academic, social, and establishment- manufactured disenfranchisement. From reporting of national and state-based public interest data, national and international research, and reporting from independent-observer accountability organizations, the extreme resource insecurity that we as a society bear witness to is empirically unnecessary.

In the context of the wealthiest colonial superpower, the United States’ EPA estimated 30-40% of the collective food supply is wasted (Todd & Faour -Klingbeil, 2024), the Census Bureau estimates that 10.4% of all U.S. housing is vacant during a time of record homelessness (U.S. Census Bureau, 2024), and employment inequality skyrockets for people who are of the African and American First Nation diasporas (Weller, 2019).

Here, it is believed that just as adversity can be engineered to the detriment of many, it can be engineered against.

The National Coalition for Social Advancement's crusade to fortify community resiliency efforts for marginalized populations is defined by four continuous initiatives in our 20-year strategic plan:

Community Infrastructure Support, Community Resource Support, Elevating Community Voices (Assessment & Storytelling), & Creating a Coalition for Professionals.
